Vacuum Leak Tester

• The KOWOVAC vacuum leak testing system allows for quick and safe leak testing of welds in tanks, pipes and many other welded structures. In addition, castings can also be tested for cracks and porosity if they penetrate the entire thickness of the material. The so-called “bubble test” method can be performed according to EN 1593 and ASTM E515.
• Leak testing with the KOWOVAC system is performed before or instead of hydraulic pressure testing if this test is too expensive or cannot provide reliable results due to the thin wall thickness of the material.
  The KOWOVAC V system and vacuum boxes are used especially for leak testing in cases where the structure is only accessible from one side (such as the bottom of a tank) or for testing open structures (such as tanks).
• The KOWOVAC V leak testing method uses a foaming agent sprayed onto the test area of a weld or casting. A foaming agent best suited for this application is the G-FLEX leak finder – soapy water should not be used for this application.
• After spraying the foaming agent, the test area is covered with a vacuum box, which is adapted to the shape of the structure to be tested. This vacuum box is connected to a vacuum hose and the KOWOVAC V device. After opening the valve – which opens automatically when the box is pressed against the test area – the volume under the vacuum box is evacuated within a few seconds. If there is a defect in the test area, a “foam cap” will quickly form due to air leaking through this defect. This method makes it easy to identify leaks.
• The detection limit of this method under practical test conditions is from 0.0001 to 0.001 mbar l/s.
  To safely detect even small defects, the vacuum below the box must be maintained for at least 30 seconds.

KOWOVAC Ejector Unit

• The KOWOVAC suction nozzle is carried by the inspector on a strap on the right hip, connected to a compressed air hose and a vacuum hose to a vacuum box.
• Maintenance-free injectors and large silencers reduce the noise of compressed air exiting behind the tester.
