High-Quality ARMI | MBH Alloy Reference Materials
What Is ARMI | MBH? What It Offers
ARMI | MBH manufactures ISO 17034-compliant metal reference materials (CRMs) under the IARM and MBH brands.
ARMI | MBH offers a wide range of materials:
- Certified reference materials (CRMs) and reference materials (RMs) for metal alloys
- Non-metallic standards
- Industrial and geological reference materials
ARMI | MBH also operates an ISO 17043-accredited metal proficiency testing program to ensure quality and confidence in your measurements.
The international organization ARMI analytical reference materials was founded in 1984 to produce certified reference materials (CRMs) for the metals industry. Since then, ARMI has expanded its metal inventory to include CRMs for:
- Carbon and low-alloy steels
- Stainless steels
- Nickel alloys
- Titanium alloys
- Tool steels
- Cobalt alloys
- High-temperature steels
- Various copper alloys

ARMI reference materials are produced from available materials analyzed by laboratories participating in the ILAP (Inter-Laboratory Analysis Program). ILAP laboratories use ASTM standards to generate analytical and statistical data, then calculate certified reference values with a 95% confidence interval. The result is a stable, reliable reference material for industrial use. ARMI analytical certificates also provide the evidence and information needed to demonstrate that CRMs comply with the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
ARMI is the worldwide distributor of “Alcan Aluminum” samples. See ARMI’s aluminum producer catalog for details.

ARMI currently offers heavy-metal samples in flexible materials such as PE and PVC, including Br, Hg, Cr, Pb, and Cd. These samples are available only as sets.
ARMI also develops in-house Set-up Standards (SUS) for low-alloy samples, cast iron and steel, and aluminum. In addition to SUS, ARMI offers a full range of “Alcoa Aluminum” standards.
ARMI is expanding its range of hydrocarbon reference materials for industry. New CRMs are produced to ASTM standards and, like its metal CRMs, include full NIST information. Hydrocarbon CRMs include sulfur standards for oil and coal.
Oil CRMs are available at varying sulfur levels for:
- Diesel #2 CRMs and RMs
- Residual fuel oil
- White mineral oil
- Calcined petroleum coke and green petroleum coke (a light greenish-blue, paraffin-containing crude oil)

Available coal CRMs include a range of values for:
- Sulfur
- BTU
- Ash
- Chlorine
- Fixed carbon
- Volatile matter
- Mercury
- Mine gas (C, H, O, and N composition)
Beyond the CRMs listed in its catalog, ARMI can source additional standards through branches and partners worldwide. ARMI has agreements with MBH Analytical in the UK and TechLab in France to distribute products in the United States. Let ARMI help you find the standards you need.
